A few days ago I read an interesting short article. It said that physically the Internet resembles the human brain allot in the sense that our brain is constructed out of billions of neurons making connections with a billions of other neurons. The Internet resembles this in that it is composed out of billions of servers making connections with billions of other servers. And many a scientist poses the question if it would be possible for the Internet to spontaneously develop a conscious because of this. A bit like Shirows ghost in the machine. Some even go as far as to say that that might have already happened and that now it is growing, learning, perfecting itself.

Although considerings that the net contains a lot of rubbish, porn and gambling I'm a bit afraid of what kind of Sentience might arise from that. Something like Skynet from the Terminator? Or something like Barny from the Simpsons?

But more seriously what if it is an entity that is us. People tend to forget that next to the garbage there is also a lot of valuable knowledge on the Internet and that this being is us in a metaphysical way because that knowledge is about us but without the clouding from the urges from our animal side. No desire for power, for wealth, for status, to be THE Alpha. Not bothered by religion or superstition. A being that was born, that nursed from all the cultures, ideals and perspectives that there are out there in this world.

If this would be the case would this being not make the ideal leader for our kind? It would judge based on the knowledge from us all. It would not be hindered by the things that often paralyze our politics. It would be the keeper of us and might be able steer us away from the fates made by our self destructive nature. Solve problems in days that blind squabbling politicians would take decades to solve!

To go even further into this what if it becomes one with humankind? Each and ever human that wants to be able to to link up with this entity at will and back again. The drop to become the ocean and the ocean become a drop again if it wishes it. The sentience would be able to grow even further from the exposure of our personal experiences and we would grow from the exposure to all the knowledge it contains.
